Students at the Marymount School of New York have partnered with talkSTEM to expand STEM learning by creating an iconic and interesting tour that asks science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics questions about Central Park, one of the most famous parks in the world.
Designed specifically for the International Coalition of Girls Schools – Educating Girls Symposium, held in New York City in February 2023, this tour examines one of the most filmed locations in the world and includes 843 acres in central Manhattan. By using such a well-known venue, our hope is that participants can identify with the location and experience a set of STEM perspectives, along with some hidden gems, in Central Park.
Experience the tour here, or by searching for it in the completely free Otocast mobile app Both options offer directions, maps, image galleries, and the voices of Marymount School students excited to show off the STEM around them!
You can hear from Eric Walters, the organizing teacher at the Marymount School, and some of the involved students in the video below, where they discuss the process of creating a walkSTEM tour of their very own, featuring Kyra B., Isabella K.G., Maitaine P.S., Maria E., and Sophia C. We hope enjoy, and feel inspired to see STEM around your own neighborhood too! We invite all students and educators to design their own walkSTEM. Refer to these guidelines and share with us too!
