talkSTEM is happy to announce a partnership with Texas Women’s Foundation and If/Then® to provide a new fellowship opportunity to middle school teachers within the Dallas / Fort Worth area! The talkSTEM-If/Then® Educational Fellowship program will engage 15 teachers from June-November 2021. We are looking for thoughtful, innovative teachers of all genders who care about equity issues in math, science, STEM, and STEAM education.
We are delighted to partner with two organizations, both deeply committed to empowering and celebrating girls and women. If/Then® is designed to activate a culture shift among young girls to open their eyes to STEM careers. The If/Then asset collection seeks to further advance women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by empowering current innovators and inspiring the next generation of pioneers. The Texas Women’s Foundation is investing to transform Texas for Women and Girls, empowering them to build stronger, more equitable communities throughout Texas. Texas Women’s Foundation is one of the world’s largest women’s funds and is a trusted leader in advocating for and advancing economic security for Texas women, girls and families. Its goal is to ensure that women and girls are enabled and supported in taking leadership roles in every sector in the state. As you can see, these two great organizations are perfect partners for talkSTEM, given that a key focus area for us is helping to develop female leaders in STEM by inspiring our girls to adopt a STEM mindset and identity.
Fifteen selected teachers will each receive a $1000 stipend, as well as an additional $100 for the printing of If/Then inspirational posters, provided on their website. For more detailed information about the fellowship, specific requirements, and dates, please refer to our information sheet here.
Middle school is the most intense period of brain development after infancy and middle school teachers do incredibly important work. This is why this fellowship is focused on teachers who work with children in these grade levels. Recent brain science developments point to a good deal of potential when it comes to teaching strategies that leverage the middle school brain.
